In Daniel 1:11 it says:
11 Daniel then said to the guard whom the chief official had appointed over Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael and Azariah, 12 “Please test your servants for ten days: Give us nothing but vegetables to eat and water to drink.
Now the interesting thing about this is that God never said that the Israelites should not eat meat or drink wine. But God had commanded they not eat pork. Also, there was a common custom of sacrificing meat to idols in that time and then serving it. Daniel did not want to take the chance of being defiled by accidentally eating something that was displeasing to God. He was willing to surrender eating all meat because it was the only sure way to know they did not accidentally sin.
Now God no longer has the dietary requirements He had in the Old Testament, but He does still have things He warns us to not defile ourselves with. Are you willing to give up something good if it will ensure you don’t accidentally sin? How serious are you about wanting to please God?
