In his book Winning With People, John Maxwell makes an interesting point about one of the differences between being secure and insecure.  He said that those who are secure tend to expect the best for themselves in situations, whereas those who are insecure tend to expect the worst.  In prayer the other day at church, we were praying that God increase our faith, and I suddenly connected the two thoughts.  That when we are secure in our faith in God, that we expect the best in situations, we don’t say things like “Oh this won’t work out either, because things never work out the way you want them to.”  Instead, you have an attitude that expects God to do great things, because you have great confidence in God, not in you.  We expect God to do good things in the future, and things tend to look brighter.  The attitude of someone who is confident in God, is that of someone who is excited and expectant of good things, not because they have it all figured out, or are oblivious of reality, but because they know God has a hand in their life, and they are walking in right standing with God.  Expecting that even if suffering is ahead, that God will use it to do good in the lives of others.

Proverbs 3:25-26
Have no fear of sudden disaster or of the ruin that overtakes the wicked, for the LORD will be your confidence and will keep your foot from being snared.
